Why Aren’t We More Upset 120k Dead Americans Later?

I was thinking about this, and I am convinced we just can not comprehend 120k. It reminded me of our difficulties comprehending large numbers. Even in my title, I am guilty. Pretty much everything above 100 is just labels. I was asked to prepare a presentation from home, so I got my oldest kids to film me and a good friend to edit the results. It ends with a web page ( at 9 min 58 second mark) that combines beautifully the two ways we internalize large numbers. It pressents the number of deaths relative to other causes of death, and it shows how rapidly the numbers change.

It is brilliant, and it should scare us. It is past time to stop politicizing the problem, acknowledge it and start dealing with it.
